Google Tips to Gauge Industry Competitiveness

So you’re thinking about building a new product and are in the due diligence phase of the research. You’ve found a few companies in the space but you don’t have a good feel for competitiveness in the industry. Here are my top three Google tips to help with your research:

    Here’s a couple more:
    – Once you know two competitors, search google for both competitor names, each in quotes (e.g. “company a” “company b”). This should bring up blogs and other resources listing other competitors in the field.

    – If the competitor is using Google Analytics to track their campaigns, you can get a feel for their marketing sources by searching for Google Analytics parameters being used on their site: (e.g. allinurl: utm_campaign site:groupon.com)
